Perseverance - Be the One Who’s Still in the Game

When the going gets tough, you'll wonder if it's worth it. But if you don't quit, if you keep on fighting, you give yourself a chance to achieve your goal. Applying the ideas will give you the resolve you need when you’re face-to-face with challenges.

What strategies do you use to keep on track when you’re discouraged and feel like giving up?
"When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hold a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn." - Harriet Beecher Stowe, American novelist
"The one quality all successful people have is persistence. They're willing to spend more time accomplishing a task and to persevere in the face of many difficult odds." - Joyce Brothers, American psychologist
"There's no scarcity of opportunity to make a living at what you love. There is only a scarcity of resolve to make it happen." - Wayne Dyer, American author

  1. Thank you for your article and video. Persistence in the face of all odds is an important virtue. However as we persevere we must let go of the things that weren't a success, not hold them do us as examples of our failure. We step forward into our dreams and hold on to them for dear life...but always with the resolve not to be attached to the outcomes along the way.

    Thank You.

  2. Nick, Thanks for your comment. Excellent point. We can stick with something even when it's not working because our ego doesn't want to admit we made a wrong choice. At times,we simply need to move on, and as you say, not beat ourselves up for our choices. I try to look at each situation as a learning experience...

  3. Great thoughts on persevering through the inevitable obstacles we encounter in life. I also like the comments about letting go when something isn’t working. I recently was involved with a project that didn’t seem to be going anywhere. Frustrating! When I stepped back and looked at things from a new perspective, I realized it wasn’t something I really wanted to do anyway. So, as we practice overcoming hurdles and persevering, we need to make sure we’re headed in the direction we want to go!

  4. Thanks for stopping by, Steve, and sharing your perspective. It's true that we have to factor in "evaluation" when things don't flow smoothly. You do need to have your heart in what you're doing.

  5. Interesting post,

If you have done your homework and you are sure the area you are focused on is an opportunity...then persistence does pay off.

However, if you did not do your homework, and you are operating on gut, then you may be "pushing mud uphill" as I discuss in my blog: http://www.nosmokeandmirrors.com/2010/07/26/%e2%80%9cpushing-mud-uphill%e2%80%9d-%e2%80%a6launching-a-new-product-or-service-without-four-clear-%e2%80%9cyes%e2%80%99s%e2%80%9d/

If you answered with four yes's, then hang in there and success will come.
